Getting to Puerto López is easy. Bus services from Quito, Guayaquil (inland or via the coast), Manta, Portoviejo, and Jipijapa to Puerto López are generally good and reliable. There is no local airport, but you can fly from Quito to the nearest airports, which are in Manta and Portoviejo, both three hours from Puerto Lopez by bus.
Via air , the easiest way to get to Puerto López is to take a flight to either Manta or Portoviejo, each 3 hours away by bus.
On the ground, both Reina del Camino (05200140) and Carlos A. Aray (052300178) bus lines run buses twice daily to Puerto Lopez, generally a 10-12 hour ride. Bus timetables are provided in the table on this page.
Guayaquil is only 4-5 hours away by bus. The Cooperativa Jipijapa bus line runs a direct bus service to Puerto López every day, up to three times a day. Many other buses also go via Jipijapa, where you change to Puerto López.
Taximotos, three-wheeled motorbikes with covered bench seats at the back, offer a handy and reliable service from 5 AM to 11 PM throughout the Lopez area. There is a minimum 25 cent charge for any ride, and the rates are fixed for longer outings. The taximotos are run by the locals who know the area well. Just hail them on the street.
Pickup Trucks: You can find designated pickup trucks in between the church and the bank for trips to all the tourist sites. It is best to negotiate the terms beforehand. Make sure the driver knows the destination and the time you want to get picked up, as well as the price of the trip before setting out.
